Minnesota libraries are effective and efficient because the state invests in a strong, resilient, and adaptive structure that supports and leverages the strengths and resources of all Minnesota libraries. However, we have unmet needs and are working hard to get needed changes into statute and the state budget. Broadband, core services funding, and net neutrality are just a few of the important issues.

The Legislative Forum is the traditional kick-off to the legislative year, and is open to all MLA and ITEM members. The day focuses on strategies that members can use to build support for our joint MLA/ITEM platform. The people in the room also review the platform draft, and vote to advance it to the membership meetings held during the annual fall conferences. A strong turnout at this event is the first step to a successful 2019-2020 legislative session.

Join us and learn more about the challenges we are facing and the current proposed solutions. Participate in discussions and strategy development sessions to hone your advocacy skills. Gain an understanding of what is on our legislative platform and why it matters. You will be inspired by conversations with other committed colleagues, and leave better prepared to build local support and stronger voices among staff, board, patrons, and city and county officials for the important legislative changes we need.

Make a difference, be the change, and register to attend!
