The Platform & Background Documents
The Platform is developed over the course of summer and fall prior to the opening of the first year of the Legislative biennium. It reflects the key requests that MLA+ITEM make to the Legislative. It is a process that involves the stakeholders who fund the lobbyist contract and the library community.
Background papers provide library advocates with information that helps them understand library issues and funding requests. The background papers are prepared by the key stakeholder organizations for each legislative issue. These are for you to use to ready your advocates for their meetings with legislators, to write letters to the editor, or other times you need information on a specific issue. They are not designed as 'leave-behind' documents for legislators. The important 'leave-behind' is the platform.
